Teflon (PTFE)

The company offers teflon sheets and rollers..

    PROPERTIES

  • high thermal resistance
  • high resistance to effects of chemical reagents and solvents
  • antiadhesive properties
  • good dielectric properties
  • low friction rate
  • physiologically neutral
  • low mechanical resistance, low hardness and rigidity

     1. THERMAL RESISTANCE

PTFE is one of the most thermally resistant plastics (it can work in the range of temperatures from -200˚C to +260C). At 260˚C the phenomenon of degradation is not observed therefore at this temperature PTFE retains most of its features. Visible degradation of the plastic starts at 400˚C.

     2. RESISTANCE TO EFFECTS OF CHEMICAL AGENTS

PTFE is practically resistant to the effects of almost every known element and chemical compound. However, it is not resistant to pure alkaline metals, chlorine trifluoride and pure fluor – with the simultaneous effect of high temperature and pressure.
PTFE is not soluble in any solvent at a temperature up to about 300˚C. Fluoride hydrocarbons cause slight swelling; however, it is a reversible process. Some fluoride oils can dissolve PTFE to some degree at temperatures over 300˚C.

     3. RESISTANCE TO ATMOSPHERICAL EFFECTS AND LIGHT

Samples of PTFE exposed to changeable atmospheric conditions (exposed period: over 20 years) do not show any changes of properties.

     4. RESISTANCE TO RADIATION

High energy radiation can cause PTFE molecular chains to break therefore the resistance of his material to radiation is quite low.

     5. FRICTION

PTFE has the lowest friction rate of all solid bodies; at 0.05 – 0.09:
- the rates of static and kinetic friction are almost equal therefore mashing and "stick-slip" phenomenons do not occur
- with the load increasing the friction rate decreases until it reaches a stable quantity
- the friction rate increases with the speed
- the friction rate is independent of temperature.

     6. SURFACE PROPERTIES

The molecular structure of PTFE causes that the surface of PTFE is characterized by high antiadhesivity. For the same reason, the surface of PTFE is not very wettable; the angle of wetting (in the case of water) is 110˚.
Specjalne techniki wytrawiania powierzchni zwiększające jej zwilżalność umożliwiają klejenie PTFE.

     APPLICATIONS

Packing elements, anticorrosion and antiadhesive layers, components of medical equipment, components used in chemical industry (connectors, packings, machine linings), machine parts (e.g. bearings).
